Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda Minor Injuries Unit

This is a reminder that the new ‘Phone First’ triage service at the Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda begins on Monday, May 14th.

The Cwm Taf Health Board have issued the following information:-

From Monday May 14th, we will signpost patients to the correct service
based on clinical need using “Phone First!”.
Phone First! is a pilot which will run for a period of six months across the
Rhondda. We are pleased to announce that a dedicated telephone number
operated by experienced call handlers and triaged by dedicated clinicians
via NHS Direct will be available for our patients to access minor injuries
The dedicated Phone First! telephone number is 01443 444075.

We will guarantee that:

• All calls will be answered by experienced call handlers and triaged by dedicated clinicians

• All patients with major conditions will be directed straight to Accident & Emergency Departments thereby minimising risk to their
health and well-being

• Patients who need to attend the Minor Injuries Treatment Centre will be allocated an appointment time thereby minimising any waiting

• All patients with minor illnesses will be directed to their GP Practice or Pharmacist or given appropriate advice depending on their clinical need
The Phone First! pilot will be fully evaluated after the six month period with the assistance of the Community Health Council before applying the learning across Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil.

Because of the 6 month evaluation it is VITAL that any comments, concerns and complaints are reported to the Health Board to ensure that their evaluation takes into account every good and poor aspect to the service, so they can ensure they are providing the best care possible to the people of the Rhondda.
