Reflecting, and moving forward!

Well, it’s all over now. We fought an excellent campaign, worked really hard, and enjoyed getting out and meeting people in Ystrad and Gelli, and gained a respectable 1127 votes for Plaid Cymru. The full breakdown of results for Rhondda Cynon Taff can be seen here. Huge congratulations to all successful Plaid Cymru new councillors, particularly newly elected Shelley Rees-Owen and Maureen Weaver of Pentre branch, Emyr Webster in Treorci, and Irene Pearce in Treherbert. Fantastic results for all!

We were naturally disappointed that the excellent feedback we were getting on the many doorsteps we stood on didn’t translate into votes at the ballot box, but lessons have been learned and it’s time to look to the future.

There is a lot of support for Plaid Cymru, and a lot of desire for change in the ward. There is a real need to run things for the benefit of the people, the economy and the environment of Rhondda Cynon Taff. I am deeply unconvinced that the Labour Party will do this, they don’t have a great track record from the last 8 years, and I will be keeping a close eye on them over the next 5 years.

The first step forward is to re-establish the Ystrad branch of Plaid Cymru, to ensure that we can keep up to date with issues in the ward, help people resolve their difficulties, and monitor the work of the council. I will organise a meeting in the next few weeks, and will be contacting known supporters to invite them to get involved. Ymlaen!
