Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda Minor Injuries Unit NEWS!

We are delighted that we have finally had confirmation from the Cwm Taf Health Board that the Minor Injuries service will be commencing in the Rhondda on Monday 13th May, 2012.

The Health Board have changed the way they operate the service. Patients will no longer simply walk into the Minor Injuries Unit, there will be a dedicated telephone number to call for ‘telephone triage’, in an ‘exciting development’ called ‘Phone First!’ Patients will call, describe their symptoms, and be directed to the most appropriate centre for treatment. This could be the Minor Injuries Unit, their GP, A&E, NHS Direct or a pharmacist, depending on need.

The scheme will be evaluated after 6 months, and if deemed successful, will be rolled out elsewhere in the Health Board region. Therefore, if patients feel that it isn’t working, it is VITAL that this is fedback to the health board. This can be done through public meetings, letters, emails etc.

Plaid Cymru in Rhondda will be closely monitoring the situation and will be making sure that the evaluation process takes into account all aspects of the service.
