Are you having trouble paying your bills?
In this age of ever increasing bills, and increasing ‘fuel poverty’, it can be very difficult to manage the household budget. The energy companies are making huge profits while householders are seeing bills rise on a regular basis.
It was quite a surprise to me then, when I was found out about the British Gas Energy Trust. This trust will help British Gas customers who get into financial difficulties. Other energy companies operate the same scheme, working under a scheme called ‘Shared Programme of Giving‘
This scheme doesn’t just help with your fuel bills:-
The Trust awards grants to:
- Clear domestic gas and electricity debts
- Clear other priority debts, including water and sewerage (known as Further Assistance Payments (FAP))
- Purchase essential household items (known as Further Assistance Payments (FAP))
These ‘Further Assistance Payments’ can cover expeses such as funeral expenses, Council Tax arrears, rent arrears and other expenses. They will only consider payment in exceptional circumstances, but in the current climate, there might be quite a few people in the local area and beyond who could possibly benefit from this.
